The foundation stone of the institution was laid on October 26, 1913 by the great freedom fighter and a devout Arya Samajist, Kesar-e-Hind Lala Lajpat Rai Ji. Established in May 1963 in the pious memory of Swami Dayanand Ji Saraswati under the aegis of DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, DMS has been an epitome of heritage. The balanced blend of ancient and modern infrastructure spread over the sprawling campus of 20 acres makes DMS a stalwart in the town.

The School building has the unique honour of housing the office of DAV College Managing Committee after the partition of the country. The school has been adorned with another honour of being the first Public School of North India.
